I've been so busy with fun mountain activity I hardly get to the computer! Time here seems to move slower than the rest of the world. Now I know what they mean when they talk about "mountain time"! A week goes by and feels like a month!
In the past couple of weeks I have been to some beautiful mountainside dinners, and have enjoyed local music and art. The Applebutter festival is this weekend. It's the biggest event all year here. They have vendors, fresh applebutter being made, wine tasting, local music etc. They even have a mountain beard and mustache contest!
The studio tours are the end of this month and I have been invited to be one of the presented artists. So I have been crunching away at some paintings inspired by this area.
I have started carving and sculpting with clay. I am working out of Frog Valley Artisans with it and am being taught by one of the owners, Veronica Wilson. She is a wonderful and patient teacher. They have two potters, a metal smith and two glass artists.
I hiked up to Ediths Peak a few days ago. Amazing! A beautiful moss-covered path leading over big boulders as you get higher until finally you reach the peak and you are looking over miles of mountains and the great Cacapon river.
I am definitley recieving the rest and healing I was looking for! Visit Berkeley Springs, WV if you can!

like drinking fresh spring water through your nose....
I made it to Washington D.C. on the 16th at about 5 p.m. This was my first time to D.C. Wow was it crazy! Very high energy place. Lots of beautiful buildings, and alot of run down ones. The difference in the way it looked from one block to the next was amazing. One moment you think you're in a ghetto, the next you are turning a corner looking at some awesome buildings. And the traffic, of course, was ridiculous!
We were in Maryland for a little while on our journey to Ragtimes house in Berkeley Springs, WV. It was beautiful. We got to Rags house at about 9 pm where I unloaded my stuff into his basement where I will be dwelling until I find it is time to move on. Check out his peace project at 1000 points of peace.com
I have quickly realized that I packed way too much shit! Simplifying to travel definetley has a method, and I think I have missed the mark!
It is very beautiful here in WV. The leaves are beginning to change and the weather is absolutley perfect! We had misty mountain weather the first couple of days. But today the sun is shining through! There are a million different kinds of songbirds here. They have been a highlight for me so far. At any given time there are at least 1 or 2 kinds of birds visible and twice as many audible. Every once in awhile a murder of crows will fly through the forest and break through the delicate sounds of the songbirds with their "caws", adding to the charm of the mountains.
Taking a walk here is an adventure every time! There is a hill I have enjoyed climbing across the street from the house. From the top you can see so far in every direction! At the bottom you are surrounded in forest all around.
Berkeley Springs is an art and spa town. The artists are all very welcoming and talented. I visited Frog Valley Artisans today and am going back on Friday to learn how to carve clay with Veronica. On Thursday night we had dinner at a local friends beautiful home then went to the local pub for some awesome live music. Very good band. Our group was the only 8 or so people left in the place towards the end of the night. But with how enthusiastic the band was you would never know it! They rocked to the very end!
I am enjoying some serious down time here on the mountain. I think this is exactly why I am here right now. I have to keep reminding myself it is ok to do nothing, to take time to heal. That this phase is not about what's next, but is about what's going on in my quiet space.
And this is the perfect place for that.....it is beautiful and the air is so clean it's like drinking fresh mountain spring water through your nose.......we should all take some time in a place like that!

Follow your heart...
"Follow your heart and you won't get lost..." - Brett Dennen
Plans have changed! So is the way of following your heart!
I am leaving for Berkeley Springs, WV on Tuesday by train. I'll be staying in a friends basement who is a stained glass artist. I stayed at my moms house for a couple of weeks recently and learned about fused glass, so I look forward to learning the art of stained glass as well.
My heart kept pulling me towards WV and as soon as I made the desicion to go there a joy washed over me and I knew that is where I need to be right now. Sometimes when you get an inspiration to go somewhere, you don't know why until you get there! So follow your heart!
My sister helped me with a fundraiser yardsale(thanks sis!). Friends donated items for sale (thankyou!) and we raised enough money to buy my train ticket and a few things I needed before I go. When you decide to cut loose and follow a dream, no matter how out there it may be, you will be surprised at how supportive others are! It's because they are inspired by your faith in your hearts desire, and don't we all really just want to support others in their dreams and be supported in ours?
Great things await you when you follow your heart...

Fear unexplored...
"Fear unexplored is pain..."wendy rule
Here I sit, 28 years old going through a divorce with my partner of 11 years. We survived through many things. But the one thing we could not survive...I could not survive... was his substance abuse.
At one time the very thought of leaving was unbearable. The words "You have to move out" or "I'm leaving" sat in my throat for so long. The fear of saying this to him was tremendous because of the emotional pain I knew we would both go through. And to be honest, I was in more fear of his pain than my own. But now that I am on the other side of it I realize the fear was so much worse than the reality.
Our relationship was very forgiving and loving in many ways. But in so many other ways it was like watching paint peel from a wall. A slow, painful process, watching him waste away right before my eyes.
So, I bow out and say goodbye to my best friend and lover of 11 years. May you find peace, love, good health and most of all release from the chains of addiction that bind you everyday, holding you back from living your most true, highest, happiest self......
What do I do now? What is the first step on my road to healing???
A road trip!!! What else?!?
I am off to Asheville, NC to volunteer at Gladheart Farms. Ah, the beautiful mountains, the music, the art! I am leaving with pretty much nothing and am going to live the wanderlust lifestyle for awhile. SweeT!!!
I currently reside in Palm Bay, FL (for about 1 and a half more weeks!). I am gearing up for a yard sale to raise money for my train ticket and have been sending out emails to friends to donate a few things to help out. This is a great way to raise funds and help take a load off for folks with a little excess around the house or garage. We once raised about $300 in 2 days for our friends charity this way!
So, enjoy the journey along with me. Maybe you'll try this for yourself someday!
Peace and Love!
